Mozilla: Branding Without Walls

A Rebrand Built in Public

Mozilla has always stood for openness, collaboration and putting people first. These values became a visible part of its rebrand with Johnson Banks, as the process was shared publicly instead of being developed behind closed doors. The community could follow each stage, from the early ideas to the final design.

Mozilla also invited designers to contribute imagery to its growing visual gallery. This allowed different people to shape the brand and helped the identity remain varied, flexible and constantly evolving. Rather than simply talking about openness, Mozilla demonstrated it through the way the rebrand was created.

What I Can Learn from Mozilla

Mozilla’s idea of “branding without walls” has shown me that the creative process does not always need to be hidden until the final outcome is ready. Sharing work, listening to feedback and allowing other people to contribute can lead to stronger and more meaningful ideas.

I can take this approach into my own creative process by being more open to collaboration and less protective of unfinished work. Mozilla shows that involving people does not weaken a creative vision, it can make the result feel more genuine, relevant and connected to the community it represents.
